We, the IFC classes of the school year 2019/20, visited the German capital – Berlin from October the 7th to October the 11th 2019 with our form teachers Ms. Sipos, Mr.Brenner and Mr. Büttner. Although we spend two days of the trip on traveling to Berlin and back, we saw very much in the three remaining days. The program Mr. Büttner put together for the trip was great. We visited all the sights which one has to see when visiting Berlin. But we didn’t miss out on visiting extraordinary museums nor on having free time to spend on our own.
Almost all the museums we visited had a historical context. We were in the GDR museum, which shows daily life in the German Democratic Republic. We went also to the German Historical Museum and to the holocaust memorial. We also spent time in Madame Tussaud´s. Furthermore, we went to the Bundestag (the German parliament), the Berlin Wall and Alexanderplatz.
Unfortunately, due to cleaning, it wasn’t possible to visit the dome after a guided tour in the Reichstag building. A definite highlight was the Improtheater which we attended on the last evening of the trip. The show was for us in English and we had a great time because of the innovative ideas we were able to contribute. Magda and Antonina, two internationals from Poland, were asked on stage and really made us laugh, but also the nationals Nils and Luisa performed really well. But the winner of this night definitely was Isaiah who won two free tickets for another show.
Our dinners were mostly Swabian Kässpätzle or Maultaschen for example, but Hikaru, our Myanmar classmate, once cooked a typical Myanmar dish with rice and curry. Giorgia, an Italian classmate, made the best tiramisu I have ever eaten. Also the Berlin curry sausage was not missing.
The time we spend in the evenings were used for ping-pong or playing cards, which brought us together even more as a class!
All in all, the time in Berlin was simply great. On one side, it was possible for the internationals to visit the capital and dive into German history. On the other, we learned much about each other, laughed and became closer to each other. We are hoping for a wonderful school year together and are looking forward to many other interesting activities in the IFC.
